What a great day for Eskimos. Here in Raleigh, NC it is chilly. I don't have it as bad as my sister in Iowa as she has all that snow. But when you are used to North Carolina beach weather this takes some getting used to. I used to live in Wilmington where snow days where headline events. When I lived in the Midwest it was not such a big deal. Now I remember why I chose the South to live! That was on the "pro" side of my list of reasons to move to NC. I do not miss the roads covered with ice to the point you have to walk on the grass to stay afoot. Crunch, crunch, crunch my shoes would go. And when you got to town you had to find things to hold on to to make it across sidewalks and streets. Needless to say one of the reasons I kept a well stocked cupboard and freezer. We could live on soup and did some Winters. In fact one winter in particular I ate so much soup I did not gain any winter weight! In my other life I used to can alot and when we had bumper crops I canned so much we could literally live off the land. Nothing tastes as good as a pot of chili with home canned tomatos. Well now that I have made you hungry I guess I will go cook breakfast. Have a super great day and don't freeze! Hot cocoa time. This is the last day of 2003 and it just doesn't seem like it at all to me. New Years just doesn't hold the significance to me as it did when I was younger. We had celebrations at home. My parents often went out to celebrate but came home before midnight and brought hats and noisemakers. I particularly recall the round metal noisemakers which had a handle. You held tight to the handle and would twirl the round section. It made quite a racket. We would open the windows and holler "Happy New Year!" Then we would call anybody who might possibly be up and wish them a happy new year too. Over the years the family has slimmed down in number and have started traditions of their own. Seems in these past few years it takes all my strength to stay up until midnight. I do recall, though, the good times we had and perhaps that is where it needs to be for me now. So much is going on in this world and the most I can hope for is a happy new year for all. And in some way perhaps I can do something to help others have a happy new year too.

The Tri-Write-Club wants to wish all of you a very Happy Holiday and a most promising New Year! Yours truly is now taking a writing course to get in touch with my genre....whatever it may be...as soon as I figure that out I will let you know. I took advantage of the free audio post. Of course I would find it when I have a cold so it may sound somewhat sluggish. Will re-record when I am more clear throated. (12/31/03-Well I would have if I had the access-oh well)...

My sister is here visiting this week. It is such a joy to have her around and I am sure our Father is loving it! We went to see the movie "Elf" yesterday. It was just o.k. kind of cute but I can surely see why it was rated PG...hmmm The tights were...uh...err..."tight" and Elf's coat should have been longer. Oh my... Everytime he came on the screen I started laughing at his obvious "happiness." Go Elf! wink wink

Thanksgiving is to me the time to think of all the blessings and challenges throughout the year. It has been a blessed year for me. The club site seems to have taken off well. I am able to manage it with support of the members. Eventually this is going to become an independant site but am grateful for what we have now. A contest is coming in January. Better to do after the holiday demands. What are your plans for the holidays? We are going to make presents for the needy and am getting geared up for that. First I have to find my neglected sewing machine, given I have spent more time writing and less time domesticating. No worries. Focus on that which makes you happy and harms no others. Will write more later. Trying to be more consistant in Blog world.
